Care step by step

Watering plants without a rigid schedule

Good watering starts with checking the root zone and the needs of the specific plant, then letting excess water drain.

Good timing

Use soil moisture, pot weight and the plant’s condition together.

When to wait

Pause if the mix is still wet, drainage is blocked or cooler conditions have slowed water use.

What to record

The date, place, soil condition and any visible change after watering.

Care

A useful watering routine

  1. 1

Check moisture below the surface or compare the pot’s weight.

  2. 2

Water evenly for the plant and growing setup.

  3. 3

Remove excess water and schedule a check, not an automatic repeat.

Observation

After watering

  • Make sure excess water can leave the pot.
  • Watch for restored firmness or continuing wilt.
  • Adjust the next check to light and temperature.
Important

Watering frequency changes with the plant, season, light, temperature, pot and soil. A universal interval is only a reminder to check.
