Caladium: colourful leaves and natural dormancy

Caladium bicolor. This is a seasonal plant: after active growth the leaves may naturally die back as the tuber rests.

Bright, indirect light; protect the delicate leaves from harsh sun.

Watering

During active growth, keep the mix lightly moist without waterlogging the tuber.

Soil

A light, free-draining and warm mix.

More useful detail

Care over time

Rhythm through the year

Active growth usually comes in warmer, brighter conditions. Dormancy is not a disease if the tuber remains healthy.

Growth and repotting

After dormancy, resume watering only when growth begins. Plant the tuber shallowly in a fresh, light mix.

A simple care routine for Caladium
