Marble Queen pothos: bright variegation and compact growth

Epipremnum aureum 'Marble Queen'. A high proportion of pale tissue slows growth, so this cultivar needs more light than green pothos.

Marble Queen pothos

Light

Very bright, indirect light; marbling fades in shade.

Watering

Water after partial drying and empty the outer pot.

Soil

An airy, free-draining tropical-climber mix.

More useful detail

Care over time

Rhythm through the year

Growth is much faster in brighter months. In winter, allow longer drying.

Growth and training

Pruning above a node encourages fullness; a support helps leaves size up.

Plant

A simple care routine for Marble Queen pothos

  1. 1

Check light and moisture deeper in the pot.

  2. 2

Let light reach the top of the pot and do not water more simply because growth is slow.

  3. 3

Track successive leaves and the pace of growth.

Observation

Changes worth checking

  • Successive leaves becoming greener
  • Cream areas turning brown
  • Yellowing above constantly wet mix
Important

The plant contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it away from children and pets, and wear gloves when pruning.
