Care step by step

Repotting plants

Repot because the roots or potting mix need attention, not simply because a new season has started.

Good timing

Repot when roots have filled the pot, drainage has failed or the mix has lost its useful structure.

When to wait

Wait when a healthy plant is flowering, dormant or still comfortable in its container unless there is an urgent root problem.

What to record

The old and new pot size, mix, root condition and the date of the first follow-up.

Care

A useful routine

  1. 1

Prepare a pot only slightly larger and the correct mix.

  2. 2

Inspect roots and remove only clearly dead tissue.

  3. 3

Set the plant at the correct depth, water as appropriate and let it recover.

Observation

Before you finish

  • The container has working drainage.
  • The crown or stem base is not buried.
  • The plant is returned to stable light and temperature.
Important

An oversized pot holds more wet mix and can increase root risk. Choose size according to the healthy root system.
